Tennis deserves better than misleading promises and false accuracy claims.
I just read an article where a tech company claimed 99.9 % accuracy for their line-calling system. But in the same paragraph, it mentioned clear mistakes and even a mishap at match point during a tournament. The math doesn't add up.
This isn't just frustrating - it's harmful to our sport.
At Zenniz, we've spent countless hours cleaning up the mess left by companies overpromising and underdelivering. We've seen firsthand how negative experiences can turn clubs, players, and coaches away from embracing technology that could genuinely improve the game.
The reality is, no system is perfect. Even Hawk-Eye and other high-end solutions that provide a valuable addition to big tournaments require constant oversight and occasionally glitch. Pretending otherwise doesn't just set unrealistic expectations—it erodes trust in the entire industry.
Tennis deserves honesty. It deserves technology that enhances the experience without compromising integrity. Most importantly, it deserves companies that respect the sport enough to be truthful about what they can and can't deliver.
We need to focus on the real benefits technology brings:
- A fair playing environment through objective line calling
- Improved player development and coaching
- Memories to share and take home with from the court
- Enhanced spectator experiences
- More efficient tournament management
These are transformative enough without chasing impossible perfection.
Let's celebrate the genuine advancements while being transparent about limitations. That's how we build lasting trust and drive meaningful innovation in tennis.
